Hello there

Recently I have decided to undertake a small project:

My car has a stock headunit which fits flush into the front fascia, the display colour matches the rest of the car, and I like its look.

It unfortunately does not have 1. RCA connectors, but rather speaker wires. 2. Axially or USB input.

My goals are as follows to be able to listen to good quality music and if possible also radio in the car.
My music source would be google play and/or usb flash drive, and to be able to stream internet radio would be a bonus.

My car has average speakers, but if I am going thought the effort, I could upgrade the system with mid-range aftermarket amp speakers and sub.

Note I have a second stock headunit which was donated to me working order.

My plan would be to try the following, to gut the internals of the unit, and replace them with a raspberry pi, to handle the audio input, then use either a pi hat dac (like the hifiberry) with rca outputs; or a digi+ hat to connect to an external dac, and then the amplifier, down the line.

My hope would be to connect some of the original buttons from the unit eg volume and next track from the headunit fascia to control the music, my smartphone can also be used.

Questions
1) Am I wasting my time? Ie. This will never work
2) This is a cool project go for it
3) There is a better way, here?s how? Or See this thread *link*
4) Consider these components as they worked for me
5)    Lol wut?

Thanks guys any input is welcome!

Matt
