OK, so if I get roasted for this so be it, I've wanted to ask this question for a while....

With the setup of my kit, the "standard" RCA cable length from a turntable of around 900cm is just too short to reach my receiver which has a built in phono stage, prior to me understanding the reason for this I purchased some shielded RCA cables with female jacks to extend the cable, hooked everything up and it couldn't hear a difference, I've read up a lot about why the cables are so short and really do understand the concept.

The thing is, with the extension, I hear no difference from when I remove them and connect my table up directly, I've actually again just gone through the exercise of bypassing the extension and for the life of me I hear no difference so my question is really, am I missing something here?

The standard cable length is an issue, so do I make do with my modification that seems not to affect the sound or do I look at getting an external phono stage and connecting the TT up to the receiver then using a standard line in?

I've tried this method on 4 different tables and results were the same.
