I've just put the Monitor Audio S10s I got from coach to the test.  All sounds good, except that it's not quite the Monitor Audio signature sound that I've gotten used to.  It's all there, but from the Silver range, my opinion is that the midrange is a bit recessed.  I expected a lot more midrange openness and a wider soundstage.  It's there, but sounds like it's hanging back a bit.  I'm used to a MA sound where the midrange and HF are a bit more forward, some will say even 'in your face'.  Bass is there, but a bit woolly.  From the silver range I expected much punchier bass, especially being the top of the Silver range of it's time.

I noticed that the rubber surrounds, while all looking very healthy with no holes, feel a little bit thin.  They're not as stiff as I expected them to be.  Could this be the reason for lack of midrange and woolly bass?

If I refoamed them, would it make a difference?  Where would I get good kits to do this?

I have a very critical ear, and others may not pick up what I'm picking up, but having had several speakers in the MA silver series, that MA midrange is definitely not what it should be.  I expected much more openness, and for notes to hang in the air just a tad longer.  The speakers also don't have spikes.  I'm planning to put some rubber feet on them and this will help with bass resonance.  But still am I wrong to think that the flabby foam rubbers are the cause of the poor sound?
