As an interior decorator I get to see a lot of homes and what I don't quite "get" is how drastically the quality of building has deteriorated over the last 50yrs or so.  It's like builders have forgot how to build houses.  Walls are skew, ceilings are never perfectly square or level, as are floors, etc.  I find this to be true of both humble 3-bedroom and luxurious multi-level modern homes, so obviously not even money can buy you a well-built home nowdays.  Walk into much older houses and it's the exact opposite I assure you.  So... what is the reason for this general sub-standarness within the building industry?
