Hiya all , made it here on Sunday at midnight in Guangzhou..passed thru Dubai - bloody expensive there , for EG a Canon camera is about the same price as here.. don't think I will be buying anything there.
I'm in Yiwu right now , all Yiwu is is one huge shop for anything you can think of , they have a permanent wholesale market I ventured into , shops and booths from manufactureres..imagine 5 halls , 10x the size of Sa's largest malls , with 4 floors and about 1000 shops/whatever on a floor , went up to one floor , about 100 mnfgrs of led stuff alone , its mind boggling...
Ppl here drive like maniacs , lhd on the wrong side of the road - you just hear hooter continally , had about 20 near misses in 5-7 km from the airport to the hotel , hotel is Best Western its okish , clean but slightly frayed at the edges compared to westen stuff
Coke and coffee here is pricey , R15 a coke , R50 for imported cuppachino etc. Seems quite safe here. Oddly enough , the plane from Dubai to Guangzhou and from Guangzhou to Yiwu was mostly Africans and iraqis an iranians. Saw some cheap hifi (like in cash crusaders) at laughably low prices. gonna look later in my travels for better stuff. will report back
