My father passed away late last year and with the chaos of dealing with, in particular a certain bank whose employees couldn't understand the concept of death, I have only recently started going through all the bits and pieces. Amongst the stuff are a number of coins, some loose, others in special 'pockets' like 'Britain's First Decimal Coins' and so forth. Some appear to be very old South African coins. I am a bit paranoid about going to some random coin shop at a shopping centre and asking for valuations, etc. because a few years ago I went to some official SA coin place in Sandton to ask about two R1 coins I had inherited from my Mother's father, wayyyy before the R1 coins were actually issued, got told they were collector's items and worth considerable money...and then the guy left and when I followed things up got told by another guy they were essentially worth R50. So I am somewhat sceptical of the industry. Does anyone have any suggestions?
