I recently approached someone to help me in fixing a Linn Sondek Valhalla motor control board. The gentleman kindly agreed to try and help, and advised that, in order to do the work, I would need a variac and an oscilloscope. Not being an electronic engineer/technician (which is probably why I am struggling with the Valhalla in the first place) I responded that I possess neither of those pieces of equipment. It seems that our conversation ended at that point...
However, it made me think of an oscilloscope, and I started looking. And this morning I picked up this beauty: a Telequipment D43, made in Great Britain in the mid-sixties.
Inside there are some obvious problems (at least 2 leaky caps) but, otherwise, it seems to be is incredibly good condition for its age. It has a monster transformer, and probably weighs close to 20kg! There are 19 valves inside, and the soldering and wiring is top notch / professional.
I am really looking forward to trying to get this one going - all the manuals and circuit diagrams are on the internet. And, I guess, If I do succeed, fixing the Valhalla will be a walk in the park!
Has anyone here used (or are currently using) or restored one of these before? Are they worth the effort? Any advice greatly appreciated.
PS. It came without any probes - Are they easily obtainable?
