I'm busy with a job for a customer. The AT arm is one of those which was used ex SABC together with the SP10's.

Rewiring is to be unbalanced and my usual method with other arms is to run 5 wires right to the tone armwand's end and earth continuity to bridge both the armpost and the armwand.

Looking up inside the hollow armpost, I can see a previous earthing solder spot on a brass flange which is part of the horizontal bearing.

The armpost is a chromed tube and near the horizontal bearing this tube has a seam.

I'm not sure if the lower part of this armpost tube unscrews, which will allow access to the previous solder point on the horizontal bearing's brass flange I can see inside the arm post tube.

The arm arrived here completely dis-assembled and although I have vises with soft aluminium jaws (and heaven forbid!!!) waterpump pliers, I am reluctant to apply mechanical force to try and unscrew the outer armpost tube when I'm unsure if it does indeed unscrew at the seam to allow access to said solder spot.

Of the bits of arm I received, there is a pronged U-shaped piece of metal which usually is pushed up the armwand to bridge earth continuity between armpost and armwand.

Would anyone know if the armpost unscrews directly below the arm's horizontal bearing?

Thanks

skollie
