RIAA equalization

Hi Guys

I just bought a phono pre-amp as my amp did not have a phono input. It says that is has RIAA equalization. I was wonder what this is and if it affect the audio quality?
Should I rather try and buy another pre-amp that does not have RIAA equalization?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
