The bulb in the "ST0P" button glows a faint yellow. The crack of a cardboard box opening, a cold aluminium flange on the palm of the hand. "Click" as it locks, right tension roller, right idler, capstan, left idler, feeding reel. "Clack" as the rewind latches and solenoid engage. Staggering as the reel bites, brief dance of the tension tables, faster, faster, "Whoosh" becomes a scream with staccato bursts as content passes playback head. Then "Stop", "Play" and "Slap" as pinch roller grips capstan. Hit 0 and the red LED display goes to 00 00 00. A faint hiss, then: "Lub Dub, Lub Dub ...I've been mad for f@cking years"
