I came, I saw, I rocked daisies.
Another great music festival ... the bands were a bit so-so, but the event setup, the vibe, the crowd was awesome. It was also really really hot (but no wind thank goodness) so lots of bikinis and summer dresses.
Was not impressed with sound engineering - awesome systems, but the current obsession with massive bass bins is getting too much ... you can't EQ the instruments if you have a system response that's not flat... and bloody hell but it was not flat. The one stage had a MASSIVE peak at around 50-60Hz (like the world's largest mains hum), it was the only tone you could hear from away from the stage.
The bands sounded loud, but never nice, you didn't hear them and want to come closer. Although that being said, I don't really get aKing and Prime Circle - default SA white-boy rock. Band of Skulls started a bit dull and shouty, got better. Went off on a mission and unfortunately missed Lark, who were apparently brilliant.
Otherwise the setup is awesome - huge main stage, DJ stage lighting/visuals setup was phenomenal, was really slick event. Paid for, of course, by R500 ticket prices and relentless brand advertising.
