Got this from an old school mate. Fellow music lover thought it was worth sharing.
Hi Felix
The Rodriquez concert was great, he has lost none of his old magic and still plays a mean guitar. His singing also still sounds the same. The band was also top notch, two drummers and a percussionist, keyboards, lead and bass guitars and Sixto himself also strumming away. Not an empty seat in the Grand Arena at Grand West Casino, South Africans adore him probably because he is so humble. As Deon Byng from KFM 94.5 said it was if at the beginning he did not realise that he was playing to an audience until someone said 'please speak to us' . He played all of his usual numbers such as Inner City Blues, Sugar Man, Rich Folks Hoax and of course I wonder. What entertainer these days points to his band and together they take the traditional bow. He is 70 and says that this is his last visit to Cape Town. His family was in the wings and he looked quite weak walking off stage, his little grandaughter rushed out and held is arm to support him. Sixto's final words at the end of the show "it has been an honour, pleasure and privilege to play for you".That bastard who stole all of his royalties and drove him to work in construction and demolition should be shot like a hog with a twelve guage.
Few like him, no pretence a humble man who is adored in this country by young and old alike. A fantastic evening.
Going to listen to a bit of Cold Fact to savour the moment one more time.
Trust that all is going well with you.
Cheers for now.
George.
