Room size/acoustics vs watts

I see many posts about people worrying if their amp has enough power for their speakers. Most of the answers then discuss speaker sensitivity.

What i have found in our house is that the size of room and room treatment is a huge factor in what you need power wise in order to drive speakers to levels you enjoy.

Is it just me of is this common knowledge
