Hey all,

So I picked up a Bosch POF 1400 this weekend, not as easy to use as I thought it would be... Well, correctly at least.
So I got a few bits which builders stock (Tork something) and then picked up some 16mm MDF and safety gear (respirator, goggles etc) and off home I went to give it a try and practice a bit.

Finally figured out how it worked more or less, clamped down some MDF and started to make some dust with the stock Bosch router bit. Just cutting into the wood to get a feel for the router at first. Then switched to some of the other bits and yeah... Noticed some dark marks on the wood, ok, weird. Maybe it is some grease or something as its a new bit...
I broke a bit today, brand new one. I had literally used it for about a minute. Tried another of the newer bits and I think I pretty much screwed that one up too within a minute or so. It is kinda black and the blade does not look too good. So after this I decided to do a bit of Googling and that the black marks on the wood are possibly burn marks.
So seems as if I may have been a bit too eager and that is why the bit broke and the other is as good as useless now I think - I tried to cut more or less the full length of the blade into the MDF (13mm deep).
So then I went back to try again with the Bosch bit, but this time to multiple passes. Approx 4mm incriments. The wood still ends up burnt, at least I think it is burning and that is what the marks are.
What could I be doing wrong? What are some decent bits to get for cutting MDF? How to prevent the MDF from burning and is there any recommended maintenance which I should do as well? Any tips which may help?

Thanks,

Psy
