I thought that we should start a new thread as the previous 2 titles are no longer relevant. This way we can discuss all the RWC teams, matches, etc.
So it appears that Victor Matfield has been confirmed as replacement skipper for the Boks, while Jan Serfontein has been called up as replacement for Jean de Villiers. Matfield was arguably the best option, the natural successor. It was not difficult to miss his obvious leadership influence on the field. Jean often turned to him for advice or input. As for Jan Serfontein..? I am not convinced. My go-to-man would have been Frans Steyn. Why? This would have been his 3rd world cup, so plenty of experience; he can cover both 12 and 15, which in view of Kirchner's doubtful display against Japan should have at least crossed the minds of those who made the decision; he was part of the training squad until the death of his brother; lastly, he can kick penalties or drop goals from inside his half even at those low altitudes...
