Rx-A1040 yamaha - HDMI input select not possible

Hi, I resently got my hand on a A1040. The HDMI 1-4 buttons on the remote don't work! Also, onscreen input selectio doen't list the HDMI inputs. I do however get video when selecting  AV 1, 2 ect. Is this normal? My A810 alowed me to use the HDMI buttons.
