I received this BR player as a bundle with an LCD TV that I bought over the weekend. I'm not the one to get excited about Samsung source equipment, but figured it's free so didn't give it much thought. I tried it yesterday and BR playback is pretty good, not that I would know any better, hehe.

There's a LAN port and two USB ports on the thing, so that got me thinking... What formats does it support? A quick web search revealed that, with a firmware upgrade, it'll play .mkv files. WHUUUUUUAAAAATTTT?! And I was going to buy one of those WD TV media players today!! Tried the upgrade and viola! Plays the few .mkv's I had perfectly off a USB stick. Very cool... Now, I'm pretty sure it won't play ALL the mkv's out there, but it played all the random ones I tested, so that's pretty cool.

I'll still get the WD streamer, but I'll be holding off for the new one that has network streaming. They are on the local dealer pricelist already, but they only expect stock in two or so weeks. Hehe, it's not even on the WD site yet. Couldn't find too much info on the net though, but found this

It literally costs R150 more than the normal WD TV.

Anyway, I'm very impressed with the Sammy BR player. Very cool featuers for an entry level player!!
