Samsung LCD - HDMI to HDMI from PC not supported?

A work colleague has an LCD TV which apparently doesn't support an HDMI connection from a PC - can anyone explain how this is possible?  Surely the source is irrelevant if the signal is the same?

I mean what makes a PC different from a bluray player or DVD player?
