Some of you may know about my sick Sansui fetish. Not for the new stuff (like less than 20 years) but the old stuff. The good stuff. Back when they still new how to make amplifiers. Those that, as a boy, you dreamt of having and were spoken of with an air of desire.
Ok, enough of the literary nausea...
I've been on the prowl for old gear similar to this for some time now. I've managed to gather quite an arsenal of kit, this one being by far the coolest of the lot so far (there's more coming though ;D) This one wasn't in bad cosmetic shape, it just needed a lot of TLC. So no nasty scratches and gouges to have to worry about. There was some rust and corrosion of the plates and this was a bummer.
This is what it should look like.
So, as I started to peel away the layers, this is what I was faced with
Problem is, when you decide to restore something you can't just leave the corrosion like that, so these needed to get a good ol' helping of the steel wool. But to do that, the whole thing had to be stripped, right down to the last little bolt
After all the corrosion was removed, I had to prime the chassis again as most of the old protective coatings are now gone
And this is about as far as I got for tonight. There's still a boat load of things to clean/service/check/tune, but I do this as I assemble.
