I please want help with this one. It is not a huge amount but I feel SARS is wrong and I dont want to pay them, just out of principle.
They send me a threatening SMS a while ago about outstanding dept that is coming from 5 years ago. I phoned them and I was advised to go to my local branch. I took along medical certificates etc for the period in question. I then filed an objection after the lady behind the counter did see something was incorrectly completed on my online submission. But then she said while she will file the objection, the chances of it being accepted is zero. Apparently because you can't file an objection for any matter over 3 years ogo. But they took 5 years to tell me I owe them money. And they have no proof that they send me statements, sms's or anything regarding the outstanding dept.
My question is how can I take the matter further? I do want to contest this as there is an easy way of correcting this. The incorrect entry can just be corrected on the online filing system. It seems they want money seriously. Do they have any contact person or e-mail addresses or so I can use to object to their findings? I do want to explain clearly in writing that they did not let me know in 5 years time etc etc. Even if they can just write of the interest for the 5 years it would be better than nothing.
I don't want to go to a lawyer, defnitely not the one who handled my divorce
I also don't want to pay for assistance as that would defeat the purpose. I know what is wrong, they just need to correct it on their system.
