I have decided that the speakers I have are sufficient so a sub is the better option

2x12" or 1x15" preferably a Fane driver as they well priced and accessible. I will use an external amplifier not a plate amp, probably a Behringer or Wharfedale Pro like below bridged and presented witha  4ohm load. That should be sufficient.

How do I go about choosing the correct drivers? Excursion is important as far as I understand. I have absolutely no experience in this at all.
