Seatbelt warning light

[Dumb and Dumber]

I absolutely hate a safety belt. I will only use it on the highways. I just got my car I bought. Driving back to work, without the seatbelt, the warning light came on and the alarm only stopped when the car stopped at a robot. I then plugged in the safety belt, but still the alarm is not deactivated. I don't want to take the car back for something so simple and be without transport for a day or two.
Where can I find a way to fix this myself?
