I am not an Engineer. I am not a Scientist. But I do perceive that there exists, generally, a skewed view of what science is. Some folks have questioned science and its validity. Some have adjudged certain statements concerning the incontrovertibility of scientific "fact" as being indicative of extreme arrogance. But I believe that there is a truth about science that is very different from our collective popular understanding of what science is. So, I want to try and get certain things put straight once and for all.

If you are an Engineer or Scientist, or have published any scientific paper or thesis, please help us understand this:

1. What is a scientific theory?
2. What is scientific (research) methodology?
3. Under what conditions are scientific findings published?

Yes, I do have a clue (and that's why I'm putting this out here). And, yes, I could hop to Wikipedia and paste something here, but I think it would be more meaningful if you guys pipe up and defend your discipline.
