I've noticed from time to time some of the forumites discussing security issues, so I thought I'd see if any of you have suggestions for me.

I'm busy setting up a new yard in an area that's pretty good security-wise, but from time to time we have the gangs coming through trying their luck. Large open plots, plnety of space to hide if they want. My concern is the actual stables themselves - they are pretty much right next to our cottage, but by way of layout the block obstructs us from seeing anything that may approach from the road area. Added to the problem is that the stables don't have electricity. I have roof-mounted solar powered security lights with motion sensors on all sides.

There are two things I'd like to do, and advice would be appreciated: I want to add another two solar powered security lights away from the stables, facing the border electric fencing, so that anyone moving in that area gets lit up. So pretty much trying to put in a deterrrent before the guys even get to the actual cutting of the fence. My query here is if anyone here has any recommendations of good makes/models. I bought one two years ago from Makro, +-R600, has lasted beautifully, doesn't trigger easily with just motion, seems to be better quality that actually senses heat + motion before triggering. Haven't found it again since ad can't see any brand listed on the casing. The other two I bought via Takealot trigger with pretty much any motion, brightness not great, will see in a few months how they last.

I was also considering putting in beams around the stables, not connected to anything, but possibly something that has a built-in 'siren' that goes off if the beam is broken. Battery powered, of course. Anyone with any experience/knowledge of these? Waste of money?
