Hello technophobes
I have been using Magnum soldering stations (models 2004) with the LED displays for a long time. I think they are good products and good value for the money.
Recently however, I noticed the newest one I have doesn't appear to accurately display what is supposed to be the correct tip temperature according to the setting on the display.
For example, if the adjusting knob is set to 350degrees, the display rapidly runs up to the same reading on the LCD display but the tip itself appears to be colder than that selected. I am estimating the tip to be colder by a borderline melting point of RS Sn62 LMP Tin/Lead/Silver. I'm not sure by how many degrees centigrade this is but I'm guessing it is quite substantial as 350degrees centigrade usually is more than enough temperature to ensure good joints with thin wires.
So, the question is - is it possible that actual tip temperature can be colder than that one sees on the display?
The tips I use are in very good condition and appropriate for what I'm soldering.
I usually buy new heating elements from Mantech and maybe it is time for a new element.
What do you think? Replace the element?
