I used to have an account with Edgars about 8 yrs ago.  I didn't have the time to go through the account statements at the time but felt I was being ripped-off and charged for items I never actually purchased.  It eventually reached the stage where I went into the Three Rivers branch in Vereeniging (where I was staying at the time) and after being pissed-off by their manageress in a rather heated discussion, I pulled out my wallet and paid the full outstanding amount right there & then in CASH, and demanded that the account be closed.

Fast forward to about 7 years later... I start getting calls from their debt collector's demanding I pay what's owed, but I don't actually owe them anything.  How much do I owe you, I ask.  R180 according to the moron on the other end of the line who has the audacity to accuse me of avoiding payment for the last 7 years.  My number hadn't changed, and no prior notifications received in post but I "avoided" them apparently.  And why do I owe them this R180 I ask... "it's capitalisation fees" is the reply, "and the amount will only increase with each call or correspondence we have to make."  So... short of telling them to go phuck themselves which I have done with slightly more eloquence actually... what are my options here?

I'm choosing to ignore their SMS'es and am not responding to blocked calls for now.  I'm honestly NOT in the position to get a lawyer involved but what are the true consequences of my "why don't you... go phuck yourself" stance on this?
