Hi All

At the moment all of my AV equipment (AVR, PVR, CD transport, Blu Ray player, DAC, Mede8er, HP Microserver) is all in my TV room. There is an RF cable running from the PVR to the Bedroom, so DSTV can be viewed in the bedroom, just not very good quality and thru the TV speakers.

Now my AVR has got a second zone output and I do have a pair of B&W M1's lying around to do service in the bedroom.

My thinking is to take the HDMI source coming out of the Amp to the TV and put that into a HDMI to E-net splitter to send the signal to the bedroom.
Also then run 2 pairs of speaker cable along with the Cat5 cable.

This way whatever is being shown or heard in the TV room can be viewed in the bedroom.  So I don't have to get out of bed to watch HD PVR channels, Blu Ray's, listen to CD's etc.

Assuming this setup will work, which I am sure someone of this board can give me a thumbs up or down on this.

I am trying to put a cost to all this, working on cable runs of 30m.

HDMI to Cat5 converter: R1300
HDMI splitter: R600
Cat5 cabling: R5/m * 30 = R150
Speaker cable: R10/m = R600

Add in a bit of fat for some extra cable etc and there is not much change from R3K.

My other option is to say to hell with HD DSTV and the Blu Ray player and CD player in the bedroom and get a Rasberry Pii and stream from the HP micro server via Wifi and output to a 2 chl amp.
Or something like a Marantz M-CR503 and have the CD player option as well as the option later on to run a sub with the system.

Pii starter pack: R840
Second hand 2chl amp from Av Forums: R1000 - R1500 or a CR503 second hand (who knows)

Option 2 does mean I do not spend 2 days in the ceiling pulling cable thru and arguing with the insulation in the roof. And in theory the remote control situation should be a little more simple.
But no HD PVR or Blu Ray option, but a Blu Ray should be watched in 5.1.

What would you do?
