Seeing that many of the forumites are into cabinet building, I would like to stain an oak diningroom table into the darker wood that is in fashion.  I have been looking around to buy new table+chairs+sideboard but damn, lots of crap out there for too much money... some pressed or Supawood with verneer that is so thin an oil treatment would blister it.

I have a solid oak table (seen the same stained and looks great) which has a few years of oil treatments on it.  Had a guy from a cottage furniture tell me that is the best route as you do not get solid wood easily anymore.

I would like to get a process to prepare it for a stain and the best stain to get and the process of staining.
