Hi all
I am keen to move from my current receiver (Yamaha RXV 1600) set up to a processor with 7 channels of power amplication driving my 7 speakers. These speakers are B&W CDM 9NT floor standers and a matching B&W CDM CNT (centre speaker) with 4 little B&W M1's doing the surrround sound stuff. I am torn though as to what split in power amplification I should be going for.
1. On one hand I really like the idea of the three matching front speakers getting equal amplification so would need either 3 matching mono blocks or a 3 channel power amp (say 200W per channel) and then a 4 or 5 channel power amp to drive the rears which then wouldn't need more than 100W per channel (and would hence be less expensive).
2. A second and simpler option would be to go for a stereo power amp for the fronts and a 5 channel amp for the the centre and rears. What I don't like about this is that I would lose the matching 3 front channels amplification.
3. The third option would be a 7 channel power amp. What I don't like about this si that I would almost be over-amplifying the rear speakers in order to get the amplification I want for the fronts. A 7x 200W power amp would seem like overkill for the 4 M1's but great for the fronts.
I hope I've explained myself clearly. Assuming I have, what would you guys suggest?
