There has been a quality issue regarding inverter transformers incorporated in certain models of LCDTVs manufactured between 2007 - 2008. Continued use of TVs may result in the possibility of melting of part of the top cabinet of the affected TV. There have been 10 reported cases (melting of the top cabinet) and all of these occurred in Japan so far- none of which involved property damage or bodily injury. It is important to note that the cabinet materials used in manufacture of Sony TVs are flame retardant.

We would also like to emphasize that this is not a product recall but a service advisory only.
There is a very small possibility that less than 700 sets sold in South Africa may have this issue. The three models sold in South Africa that use the particular part are as follows: KLV-40X300, KLV-40X350 and KLV-40W300. Consumers who have these models can make use of a free service check to confirm that their sets are not impacted.
Just to clarify, this comes from Sony SA's PR Agency.
