Sony STR DN 1010 and speaker setup assistance

Hey Guys

I have setup my Wharfedale Diamond 10 (5.1) and Sony STR DN 1010 AV receiver
I have Bluray connected, PS3 and HTPC

Problem I have is no matter if I play .MKV files or a bluray in 5.1 sound, the talking or vocals in the movies are SO soft and sounds held back.
I end up turning it loud enough to hear but then the action scenes are WAY to loud. Having to keep adjust the audio while watching a movie

Is it normal or is it a shit setup (Am still a beginner). Could it be settings on the AV receiver. Sony seem to have filters/eq... Not sure which to set it to...could it be that?
Bass and treble?
