I?m always seeing mention of speakers surrounds being deteriorated or replaced. Does anyone here do anything to prevent surrounds perishing?
About once a year, I give my Boston VR2 a good cleaning. They have polypropylene drivers, and synthetic rubber surrounds. I use high quality automotive plastic protection/ restorative cream on both the cone and the surrounds. I avoid touching the dust caps. My woofers and their surrounds are prestine at 12 years old.
The products I?ve used were Auto Glym Bumper Care, and recently, Sonax Plastic restorer gel.
Some here will have something to say about this, but have a look at the link I?ve provided- simple maintenance of plastics and even natural rubber can have a huge effect on lifespan.
