I have a little ship coming in early next year. And, after conducting some business with achim, I will - weather permitting - be the owner of some HE horn speakers.
So... had to jump on the SET amp wagon, and after LOTS of searching, decided on something like this:
It is a Line Magnetic 219IA integrated amp, dual mono, 24wpc SET amp, using combo of following valves: 12AX7 input tubes , 310A and 300B double stage driver tubes and 845 output tubes. But read for yourself: http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/line-magnetic-219ia-integrated-tube-amp-review-300b-and-845-tube-magic/
Now, I am totally willing to buy amp as is, at pricing starting from $4000 excl shipping. But, having seen what I've seen on this site, I believe our local boys are totally capable of producing something like it.
About the build:
You have free reign, let your minds go - anything based on 845 or GM70's - or something I haven't heard of ;D. (GM70 seems to be even better than the 845 according to http://www.jacmusic.com/nos/GM70/, but I haven't done serious research).
It does not have to be integrated - I went for this because even in integrated form, the LM seems to perform brilliantly, and it has the pre-in if you want to upgrade to pre-amp later on.
Although I love the industrial look, it is not required. The designs you guys have come up with, is amazing in itself.
This is early days, so let me know what you think. Like I mentioned, I am willing to sponsor the build from scratch, if necessary. Whatever you prefer.
Hope that ship makes it... and soon! (heh achim? )
