Staining a Plasma stand

Not sure if it's best to post here or in DIY :thinking:

I've just bought a nice solid wood LCD stand/unit from Coricraft. It was on special at 50% off so I couldn't say no however the finish is a little light and doesn't match the coffee table etc in the lounge. How easy would it be to stain this darker without f$%king it up?
