Hi avforums.co.za SA user. I'm not a regular poster but occassionaly log in to check the classifieds and read general discussions. Need advise on stereo set up. I currently have a HT set up but due to space constraints and limited watching of movies I have decided to switch to a stereo set up, which will also be used to watch blu-ray. I'm planning to sell my 6.1 HT amp.
Speaker level sub connections
The stereo amp I'm considering doesnt have sub out. Therefore speaker level connections will have to be used. The cabling will be >3m from the amp to the sub located at the back. I'm a bit worried about the effect on sound quality due to using the sub x-over and running long cables. Any users who use speaker level connection and long cabling?
CD player vs music server
I want to get rid of the CD player and move the CDs to storage. I googled music servers such as Logitech Squeezebox Touch (with/ without outboard DAC) and Cambridge Audio NAP30. I like the Touch, with its display that can show album art but the NAP30 is more hifi. However most posts I read say I need a PC or a Network Attached Storage device to store all my music files in lossless format. I'm not into computers at all (I dont even own Apple anything). I do have an old laptop which I used for work. What is the process to put a music server in place? How difficult is it? Do I need a software to use FLAC and transfer music to NAS? Which NAS is recommended? Or should I get an external hard drive? All I know is that the NAS or external hard drive PC will have to be in the study. I'm clueless on this.
Thanks for your assistance!
