Stun Gun / Taser

Hi all. Neither my missus or I have firearm licenses, and we are hesitant to go down that road (for now). What is everyone's thoughts on stun guns / tasers as a form of protection or deterrent? The two types in particular I am considering are:

Flashlight style - LED flashlight which doubles up as a contact stun gun. Rated 3 million volts
Dart-firing taser - rated 1.8 million volts. Shoots darts up to 5m or can be used as a contact stun gun
