Sub cable - length and quality important?

I have two subs - I'd like to put them in roughly opposite corners of the room - basically one in the left front and one in the right back - and see how they work there... unfortunately, I don't have a long enough cable.

How important is sub cable quality, and also, will there be a difference if one is on a 3m cable and the other one a 15m cable?
