Supersonic Dancer (portable turntable) - No sound - amplifier damaged?

I have recently purchased a retro portable supersonic dancer.

It works only with a battery. I connected it and it worked beautifully. Then by accident the cables on the battery were switched and the then turntable span the wrong way around. When the cables were correctly replaced, the sound was gone.

I have checked and there are no torn cables or connections.

I was wondering whether the amplifier might have been damaged due to the switched cables?
