I have a Rotel RSX-1067 receiver whose surround processing abilities appear to have died, at least when it comes to the right surround channel, as in when it is decoding a 5.1 signal. If I feed a DVD-Audio signal through the analog inputs all channels work perfectly so it seems that the amplifiers are fine. The 1067 cannot be repaired since the processing board is no longer available and even if it was, would cost around R5k to repair. I was hoping to replace the DSP function with a standalone Surround Processor like the RSP 1066 or 1068. Would this mean that the volume on either the RSP or the RSX would have to be on max? I suppose preferably the RSP since accidently playing a source other than from the RSP would probably blow the speakers. Does this sound feasible? I know RSP or Surround Processors normally feed a multi channel power amp which of course has no volume adjustment.
