I know the Behringer Truth active had some following on the forum for some time now, and must say I?ve been a bit sceptical about it. I mean R3.5k for the 2030A a pair and it?s got a build in 75W LF amp as well as a 35W HF amp.

So my brother phoned me out of Kroonstad the other day and asks me to make a recommendation on a system. He doesn?t want to spend more than R10k. I do a bit of research and decide to recommend a set of Behringer 2030A monitors, a Samson Servo 300 pro-amp to drive a set of subs, a Samson mini active x-over, and the cheapest amp he can get with a pre-out, which turned out to be a Wharfdale AV amp from Hi-Fi corp.

The subs is a home made set of 2 I had for years just standing around at my place. Its two very ridged 100 liter boxes with a 12? Nippon car speaker in each. The boxes are tuned to 35 Hz if I can remember correctly.

Okay, so the weekend I connect the active monitors to the Audio Research pre-amp first and listen. Not bad at all, it doesn?t come close to my Chario?s connected to my Maestro power amp, and runs out of steam much quicker. But keep the volumes low and it?s got a sound I can actually live with.

Next I connected the whole kid up as I ordered for him. Took some time to set up the subwoofer volumes, and start listening. I used a cheap sony DVD player as source.
Wow? what a system, absolutely brilliant at the price. I would compare it to systems costing at least three times the price.

I can recommend this combination to anyone who wants to spend around R10k on a good sounding system.
