I am just starting on a TD124 restoration and was wondering if anyone here could comment on what they have successfully used to lubricate the main bearing as well as the motor, idler and step pulley bushes on this table. I would like to use the correct thing first time if possible
The original Castrol Regal oil mentioned in the Thorens manual is no longer available I'm told. Apparently a pure SAE 20 mineral oil (turbine oil with no detergents or nasty additives) can be substituted but have not been able to find in small quantities. The other option apparently is the 3-in-one electric motor oil which as far as I can find is not available in SA.
It seems a little crazy to have to import a small bottle of the correct oil... so anyone with good experiences with a locally sourced and readily available product?
