Fiddling with a formerly 'dead' ACRyan Playon2 having revived it a little by finding and installing newer software, I discovered that it can output "raw" or "lpcm" via spdif. Testing a dvd with only a 2 channel dolby soundtrack, my Emotiva PT100 cannot decode the dolby sound track if set to "raw" via spdif, but it can work with the lpcm. Now, my quesrion is, does that mean the ACRyan takes the signal first via a decoder and puts out a digital lpcm which is then decoded via the Emotiva's DAC?
This would be my understanding (I am no expert in the field and only learning these things now)
My next question would be........would it affect the sound quality if I use either setting setting to play a FLAC file through? (Theoretically, as I do not believe I hear any difference)
