Technics SL D212 - any good?

My brother has a working Technics SL D212, needs some cleaning and fixing up but probably nothing major.  I'm not very familiar with Technics, but I've seen some models going for very high prices. A quick google it seems this isn't one of the better/expensive models. I'm still keen to give it a service and see what it performs like, anyone have some experience with these?
