Technics SU 500 and SH 8016 equalizer help

I've picked an old Technics SU 500 amp and a SH 8016 equalizer. I can't get it the equalizer to work  so I'm looking for info on any good audio shops in the Helderberg area who could possibly take a look at it. As well as a recommendation for a decent pair of speakers for the set up
