After ogling Aqualung's recent reskin (here: http://www.avforums.co.za/index.php?topic=38358.0) and spotting the same TT for sale, I decided to try pick it up and see if I can turn it into something equally good looking. I think it came out OK! :Whoohoo:
Mechanically the table is just perfect, even the autoreturn, as finicky as the plastic bits seem, works fine.
So here's a quick recap of the process if anyone's interested to see.
? ready to be stripped and beautified
? insides out
? measuring, cutting and aligning the grain around the edges
? veneer stuck on, cut out and given a couple of coats of varnish. I actually wanted a far less glossy finish, but was so distracted by all the shiny powertools in Builder's Warehouse that I mistakenly bought a tin of Woodoc 35, which is actually floor varnish.
? putting all the important bits back
? looking good with the platter on
? last order of business: hanging a new Audio Technica AT95e, courtesy of alternativeroute (thank you again!)
? alternativeroute also had a spare dust cover hanging around, which after a very long night of elbowgreasing, half a tin of Brasso and a bit of car polish looks nice and shiny again - from the right angle
Currently spinning some Joni, which is sounding (and looking) great.
