What a strange world. This last week, in my guise as Turntable Guy, I have had not one but three queries from people who have bought Crosley Turntables and now they don't work!

The typical conversation runs like this.

Crosley buyer (or person gifted with Crosley)

Hi Turntable Guy,
I bought/was given this Crosley turntable and I am now at my wits end as it has broken and I am tired of taking it back. It keeps breaking and sounds bad!
What second-hand turntables do you have that sound better than my dead Crosley? I need one with built in speakers.

Burnt Crosley Person

My response usually follows:

Dear Burnt Crosley Person,
I need to know what your budget is?
I have a few option that you can look at here: http://www.gumtree.co.za/u-seller-listings/turntable-guy/v1u100029473p1
You need to be aware that most of the option I have will need an amplifier that has a turntable input (phono) or a phono stage and speakers.

Turntable Guy

More than once I have received the following response:

Hi Turntable Guy,
My budget is R1000 for a turntable, amplifier and speakers

  :Ooooooh:  :sulky:  :moron:  :walled:  :sulky:  :ticked:

So, they were quite happy to spend R2500 on a crap record player that damages records and keeps breaking but now they want a fully serviced one that is 100 times better with an amplifier and speakers for R1000...

  :Ooooooh:  :sulky:  :moron:  :walled:  :sulky:  :ticked:

What do you say? Usually I beseech them to take the Crosley back and get a refund but that does not always work...
