I am new to the hobby and have a lot to learn and after the response I received from my last question, I am reluctant to ask this one... but here goes anyway.

When is an amplifier a good one? Why are some speakers so very, very expensive?
The price?
The heritage?
The watts?
The brand?
The specifications? (who knows how to interpret them ... never mind if they are even true)
The weight?
I don't think I will ever earn enough, when I see what some items are advertised for here I am stunned.
