My son started Grade 10 this year. His subject choices are geared to being accepted for a BSc Engineering when he finishes matric.

One of these subjects is EGD - Engineering & Graphic Design. Something that never existed when I was at school!

They have spent the whole of this week on AutoCad training. Completed a crash course in AutoCad Essentials, Advanced & 3D Drawing & Modeling. Class has commenced at 07h30 every day and they finish at 15h30. They get two twenty minute breaks and one 30 minute break for lunch.

He also has to find out what he missed & catch up all the normal school work for the remaining 7 subjects he's taking. That includes submitting homework/assignments each day.

Last night alone he had 35 pages of AP (Advanced Program) Mathematics to complete for hand in this morning.

What happened to being a kid? He hasn't stepped out of the house or school the entire week - except for yesterday afternoon when he called time-out & went & rode his dirt-jumper for half an hour.

Today, being the final day of the AutoCad course, he has to draw & 3D model the school auditorium and associated offices/rooms - a 2 story building where almost all of the internal or external walls are curved!

The school has also been kind enough to inform us that we need to buy a laptop for him to use with AutoCad. A "normal" i3 with 4Gb RAM would do it in most instances. Except they are going to be doing 3D rendering, so an i7 with 8Gb and a 1920x1080 display card with 2Gb RAM is recommended. This a week after we've paid the school fees!  :walled:

It seems I'll have to wait a little bit longer for my new toys.  :vsad: Which is actually what this rant is all about!  :ticked:
