Hi all,

About 6 Months ago I embarked on mission impossible, how do I build a speaker good enough to compete with some of the best out there without breaking the bank.
Where do I start? What drivers, cabinets,, nevermind the crossover..
I searched and researched all the forums day and night for about a month, flew in a whole lot of different speakers from parts-express, tested & tried some pre made XO's.. Nothing worked well together.

Finally I decided to go with HIVI M-series drivers and Tymphany tweeters and after carefull consideration and recommondation decided to use one of our best crossover/speaker builders, Rudi Marloth.
I remember the day Rudi replied to my email and said : "sure I can help you, come over lets discuss it and see what you need"
Best decision ever! This Rudi aka RUDS is the most helpful and pleasent guy in the industry! He showed me stuff and explained things about speakers
I never knew! So enthusiastic and passionate, hell if I think back about it, I think he was more excited than me!

Anyway, week one we plan the cabinet sizes and driver layout, bracings, crossover - 2-way, 2.5 way 3 -way etc.
In the meantime I had some cabinets made, just rough ones to do the initail testing on, ordered a shieze load of coils and caps for Rudi to start the crossover develpment.
A week or so later after the cabinets were completed I took it to Rudi so that crossover development can start,
2 days after I delivered the first set of speaker boxes (FS110 - 2.5 way) Rudi gave me call, "we have a problem" he said.. Ag nee F@K - went through my mind!
Whats wrong Rudi? I asked... They sound too good!!! - he replied! WHAT??!!

I jumped into my car and went to Rudis place! He already had them hooked up and started playing me tunes!! WOW!! I couldnt believe the sound that came from these little guys!
I remeber thinking - Sh#t, I hope they dont sound too good because these are the entry level of the floorstanders!! Should we detune them? NO!! The next one (FS120 - 6" 3 way) sounded even better,
and when Rudi phoned me after the develpment of the FS120 and told me: "this last one im going to make something special" I knew I was in for a treat! The final floorstander was completed (FS150 - 8" 3 way),
a monster standing 1.25meters tall, double 8" wooders, 5" mid and Peerless tweeter blew me away! 6 months later and IT STILL DOES!

After that we tackled the bookshelfs and centre! Even the little bookshelfs outperform some serious floorstanding speakers!

So after long trial and error, finding the right people to build the cabinets, vinyls, faceplates etc we managed to pull off something epic!
I will have all of the speakers on display and demo for all enthusiasts to listen to :
1) FR100 - 5" bookshelf
2) FS110 - 6" floorstanding
3) FS120 - 6" Floorstanding
4) FS150 - 8" Floorstanding
5) FC150 - Centre speaker

Come and join Rudi and myself for some good whiskey and Gin while we celebrate and play away at the all new proudly South african speakers - BENTLEY ACOUSTICS.
RSVP me direct at [email protected] to reserve your spot, we can unfortunately only cater for X amount of people.
DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED!
