Quote often when I listen to a piece of music or a song I like the song but I do not like the way it was mixed.

The technology exists that you get that song on CD-Rom (or download or whatever) and load it into a custom program and then remix the song to your own hearts content (maybe get rid of a few elements, change the pan on the cymbals from left to centre etc...) .

But there are a few problem....

On a practical level the artist is opening himself up to having bits and pieces of their songs stolen (with ease).

On a philosophical level part of buying a song/album is that you are buying a representation of the artists creative process (complete). Imagine buying a Picasso and then changing the colours because you don't like it... Just does not seem right...

When the whole Spear saga unfolded and the painting was defaced there was speculation in the media as to whether the buyer (of the spear painting) would restore it or not... For me (considering the craziness around the painting) I thought that the defacement actually completed the painting as a statement and took it to another level...

So what do you think? Sacrilegious or another avenue for artists (and listeners) to interact?
